the final moonwalk
today will go down as the saddest day in my non-reality world. it's the day mj will be memorialized by his fans and buried by his family. i am still not sure how i will ever complete my "bucket list", now that the #1 thing to do, see/meet mj, has gone and kicked the bucket.
what i wouldn't do/give to be in la right now attending this memorial. ah, nevermind, i'll watch it on tv...it's gonna be a madhouse there!
do you have a special memory of mj? have you been lucky enough to meet him or see him in concert? have something thrilling you just want to say or get off your chest about him? here's your chance. say what you have to say in the comments section here! it will be fun to see what others are thinking about him.
in other news...ok, well in other michael jackson news...
that's right, a crater on the moon will be designated in memoriam of the legendary "moonwalker".
according to the lunar republic society, the crater, previously designated as posidonius j, is located in the moon's lake of dreams (lacus somniorum). it measures approximately 22 kilometers (about 13.5 miles) in diameter, and is located adjacent to a 1,200-acre parcel owned by michael jackson in the lake of dreams.
the moon has always been symbolic throughout michael's life. in fact, did you know mr. jackson was among the largest private owners of lunar property?
of course here on earth, we will always remember michael for his trademark "moonwalk" dance move.

disbelief.
i am in shock. never thought i would be writing a post about this so soon. i just can't believe he's dead. now, i never anticipated mj to die an "old" man. he was strange and i know he was in many people's "dead pool" years ago, heck i can't believe he wasn't assassinated sometime during that "alleged" child abuse molestation trial. but at the young age of 50, just 2 months shy of his 51st birthday. it's just too soon.
i'm sad for his mother and father. it's not right for a parent to lose their child. trust me, i know.
i'm sad for his siblings. a family that, despite their struggles, was a strong, close family and loved one another dearly.
i'm sad for his fans (me included). his music and dancing was out of this world and will never be compared to anyone. i'm sad for those fans that shelled out the money to go to london in a few weeks to see him in his final concert. a concert that i seriously, seriously, considered attending. a final concert that will never be.
he will be remembered for many things, both good and bad. but it's his passion for the art of music that he should be remembered for...that's what i'll be remembering him for.

saturday june 13, 2009 - wedding work
the sun was shining and the rain held off...the day was truly a blessing for clarisa and lance. this couple has gone through the obstacles to make it back to the alter...yes, i said back to the alter. clarisa and lance were married before - to each other - and have 4 children. due to personal circumstances (that is not my business to blog to the world about), they like millions of others in the world, got a divorce several years ago, but remained amicable towards each other co-parenting their children. their love they shared for their children, then grew again into love for one another and through Christ's redemptive work, blossomed into a beautiful relationship.
following their thanksgiving engagement, clarisa asked if i would make the invites & bulletins and act as wedding coordinator for their day. my duties included decorating the church, meeting with the florist and picking out the bouquets, alter flowers and the flowers for the favors. of course, i jumped at the chance seeing as how i love to do that sort of thing!
the invites - black linen cardstock, white cardstock, vellum overlay, tied together with a turquoise sheer ribbon (personal information blurred out of course)
the invite with the vellum lifted to see the print better
the bulletin - black linen cardstock, white cardstock layered, tied together with a turquoise sheer ribbon
another view of one of the "layers"
here's another collage of a few of my favorite photos i took that morning. i am by no means a photographer, but as much as i know i will enjoy looking at her professional pics when she receives them...there is something about the candids taken by friends that show that much more of the "personal" side of the day.

"o" baby
with my sister's due date with baby brumbaugh #2 approaching ever so quickly, my mom, aunt, nana and i decided to do a "lady lunch"/mini-baby shower. my family is not into the shower thing for the 2nd baby, but we did put together some "small" gifts to give to her and i made yet another diaper cake, but on a smaller scale than my usual cakes.
the "o" at the top stands for oliver, which is the name corinne is pretty sure they'll be giving the baby...dave is on board with it so far, but that can change at any minute. the little "x's" were to represent the "jax" in a jax game which is the theme/bedding corinne did his nursery in.
it's one of my favorites i've done so far...i have another one to do for my dear friend luci this week that just might bump this one off the top...you'll just have to be patient and wait for me to finish it and post the pictures!
in the mean time, here are a few pics of the cake i did for corinne.

not much going on...
not much going on...it was a slow week for the d'angelos.
due to my lack of anything interesting to post, i thought i would post a picture of the diaper cake i made as the drawing prize (along with a $50 bru gift card) for the reading hospital baby your baby fair i attended yesterday. this was on our genspan baby group display table we had set up to get expectant mothers (oh, and the dads too) to sign up for our research group.
the little baby bath products scattered throughout the diaper cake are burt's bees baby products, hence the bee bear attached. if you know me at all...you know how i love my themes!!oh yeah...and that's my very own tony d. in the framed picture to the left. he was a genspan baby before he was even here...and way before i was even on their payroll!

another one under my belt...
i recently completed (like an hour or so ago) another set of invites. candina came as a referral to me from bobbi-jo (thanks for spreadin' the word lady) and i was happy to accomodate her request for dedication (very similar to baptism) invitations, as well as response cards and hotel information cards (lots of out of town guests). i hope she's pleased with them when i deliver them to her tomorrow. obviously there are some blurred out areas to protect candina and her family from any "uninvited attendees" at the dedication...

a night out
saturday night, john and i enjoyed an evening out. we attended a dinner honoring the owner of my company who was in for a visit from taiwan. i was in charge of organizing and planning the evening, from finding a location to hold it, sending out the invites, picking entrees, and making the placecards and centerpieces...don't think for a second, i'm complaining, because i absolutely love doing that sort of thing...it's kind of like planning a wedding reception (which i tease john all the time about "redoing" because i love party planning so much)...it's just i had 2 weeks to plan saturday's event...yep folks, two weeks. i was very nervous pulling it all together, but i think it ended up going quite well, and everyone seemed pleased.
i was very happy with the outcome of the centerpieces - it's so nice when you have a vision and it turns out exactly how you saw it. the dinner was held at the french creek golf club and the building and room looked beautiful. i snapped a few pictures of my centerpiece preparations...

announcing...
the most recent set of announcements i've done...a set of baby announcements for a co-worker of john (their last name has been blurred to protect their privacy)...
his nursery is done in a construction theme using these colors. i couldn't be happier with the outcome...hope the new mom and dad like them as much!

if you can't go to disney...
let disney come to you...that's my new motto!!
john, tony and i will be heading to the sweetest place on earth (hershey, pa) to attend disney on ice!!
what's better than disney on ice, you say? disney on ice for free!!
aunt cathy, aunt cath, kat-kat...whatever you choose to call her...scored us some club level seats to tonight's performance (helps when you know the giant center house manager) and after enjoying a quick bite to eat with aunt cath and the rest of the mulligan's, we'll be surprising tony with the show. he has no idea we are even doing anything like this tonight. we're not telling him either. all he knows is there's a surprise waiting for him after a good day at school. he'll think it's just seeing jack and sam! hopefully i'll be able to catch the surprised look on his face when the show starts!!
i'll post pics and more tomorrow! i can't think of a more fun way to kick off tony's mickey mouse clubhouse birthday extravaganza than seeing the main mouse himself!!
have a magical evening...i know we will!

for the love of facebook
ok, so i could never get myself into the myspace thing, but i've fallen for facebook...fallen hard...but it's ok because something amazing has happened because of it!! i've reconnected with a lot of people...old sorority sisters, former co-workers from the disney college program, and high school classmates that i haven't talked to since...well, high school. but last night, i received a friend request from a very special person in my life from a long time ago...my pen pal that i had from elementary school, rebecca - and even john agreed at that point (after seeing my total excitement at reconnecting with her), that facebook is a good thing!!
rebecca is the granddaughter of my pastor of my church (now retired) from when i was growing up. we began a friendship (back in the 80's) during one of her visits to see her grandparents. she, her mom, dad and two brothers lived in hawaii. we kept in touch for years on paper (to this day i still have her parents home address in hawaii memorized - and anyone that knows me knows i have trouble memorizing anything!) and visited when she would come East to visit her grandparents. through college we lost touch, but she was never far from my mind, and the first person i asked about when i ran into pastor and mrs. harding.
she has a beautiful family of her own now with a daughter only about 6 months or so older than anthony! although she no longer lives in hawaii, she is still not real close (now in california), so for now, we'll have our blogs, email and facebook to keep us back in touch with each other...a far cry from the cute stationary and fun colored pens we used to use "back in the day"...but a heck of a lot quicker than the snail mail we used to rely on!

which disney princess are you?
i saw this on several blogs that i read and finally decided being the disney fanatic that i am, that i need to see which disney princess i am most like. ok, so it's basically to see who i need to lock in a closet and steal her job next time i'm there, but i digress...
drumroll please...
i'm most like princess aurora (aka "sleeping beauty")

hello designers...
project runway season finale part 1 tonight!! can i just say i'm not the only d'angelo to be excited about this? john has actually become equally (ok, well, almost) obsessed with it about as much as i am now...if not only for the pure entertainment of tim gunn!
tony d. was fed early with all attention devoted to him and only him for several hours after arriving home, so i could guarantee he'd be tired and an early night into bed where he'll stay, so johnny d and i can enjoy the entire [uninteruppted] episode!enjoy if you will!!
oh, and i'm so done with kenley...if she's still around after tonight's episode, i'll scream!
update:...screaming!!!! i just finished watching part 1 and i can't believe she made it to bryant park! ah, well, yeah, i can...producers kept her around for ratings! that's about it...jerrel is on his way home...so long girl!

shameless self-promoting...
ok, so i just finished two more sets of invites, ironically both for baptisms. one for my friend bobbi's daughter kara's baptism and the other for my best friend shannon's son troy, who after his baptism on 11/16 will be our godson as shannon and mike have asked john and i to be troy's sponsors! we couldn't be more excited or honored to accept that role!
although i did the same style, they are different in their own ways (on troy's i incorporated the baptism symbol of the scalloped shell)...i just really fell in love with the look of this simple, yet stately invite.
here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure (and again, my shameless self-promotion)!!
