into the 5th...

well not only have we been to cape may and back (this post is way over due), we are already almost 1 week into our 5 years married...aside from the fact that since our anniversary weekend away, i have only really spent 3-5 hours this week (awake) with my husband, i'd say things are pretty much the same...but that's just fine with me!

we enjoyed an absolutely wonderful extended weekend in cape may. friday afternoon upon our arrival, we checked into the carroll villa inn and got to see our beautiful room.

then we headed out to sunset beach and the concrete ship and to town to walk the washington street mall...it's not really a mall so much as a brick-paver street for pedestrians only lined with adorable little shops. we mosied around there for a while before returning to our inn where we found a bottle of chilled champagne and two keepsake glasses with a happy anni balloon (which was actually in the colors of our wedding - silver and celedon green).

for dinner that evening at the attached restaurant, the mad batter. john enjoyed huge maryland crab cakes over mashed sweet potatoes with a creamy mustard sauce, while i dined on seared jumbo sea scallops over 2 pumpkin ravioli with creamy saffron butter sauce and asparagus. needless to say, we ate quite well...it was yummy and the best part was wine by the bottle at the inn is 1/2 off on friday's plus we got a 30% discount off our meal b/c we were staying there! there is nothing we love more than a good meal, than a good meal at a discount, followed by a moonlit walk on the beach!

saturday, our actual anniversary day was filled with more beautiful, warm weather (much like that on our actual wedding day) we enjoyed breakfast at the inn (my new favorite, chesapeake eggs benedict -- english muffins topped with poached eggs and jumbo lump crab meat drizzled with a caper hollandaise sauce), the more walking around the shops and looking at ocean. early afternoon we enjoyed a horse-drawn carriage ride around town to see all the historical inns and buildings.

i could move right into all of these homes! the style of the homes and periods from which they are decorated are just amazing! following a short afternoon nap (which allowed us to miss the drizzle the briefly occurred outside), we boarded a trolley, just like we did 5 years earlier on our wedding day, but instead of taking us to the reception, we took a haunted ghost tour of the town, stopping at the "known" haunted inns and hearing the stories of those that still linger around cape may and the reasons they haven't "left".

the last stop on the trolley tour was the emlen physick estate which is also said to be haunted. here we left the comforts of the trolley and proceeded to get to walk through this 1800's home where others are said to roam the halways as well. strange feelings while we were in there!

we wrapped up our evening at the lobster house, where we dined on lobster tails and enjoyed a toast to the 5 years that have passed and many more to come.

sunday brought about another great breakfast and some more poking around shops before heading home to our tony d who we missed terribly (but must not have missed us too much as he didn't even want to talk to us on the phone)!!

thank you everyone for your anniversary wishes...we are pretty excited with our 5 years given this day in age and the rate of divorce!!! we are however looking forward to many, many more years together to be even more proud of!! click here to see more pictures of our weekend and the beautiful houses in cape may!

Well Congrats again on your 5th year! I am sure glad you both knew someone who planted "peach pits" along the way so that this could be! Love you -Sue D.
